Metafin Raises $10 Million in funding led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India to accelerate clean energy access in rural India

Metafin | 29 Apr 2025

Gurugram, April 29, 2025Metafin, India’s leading solar financing platform for rural MSMEs and households, has raised $10 million in a mix of equity and debt for its Series A funding round to accelerate its mission of enabling clean energy adoption across rural India. The round was led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, with participation from existing investors Prime Venture Partners and Varanium Capital, as well as financial institutions including Northern Arc and AU Small Finance Bank.

Metafin is driving a clean energy revolution in Bharat by enabling rural communities to shift from diesel-based systems to solar power. With a tech-first approach to credit, a strong network of local solar installers, and energy monitoring integrations, the company provides a seamless solution for rural businesses and households looking to adopt solar and increase their incomes.

The fresh capital will be used to deepen Metafin’s presence in core markets, expand into new states, and strengthen its technology, credit, and service infrastructure. It comes a year after the company raised its Pre-Series A round. Since then, Metafin has quadrupled its project portfolio, achieved profitability, and expanded its presence beyond Uttar Pradesh into Bihar and Jharkhand.

“This raise marks a pivotal moment in our journey to democratise clean energy access across Bharat,” said Sandeep Chopra and Aditya Shah, Co-Founders of Metafin. “We’ve proven that solar lending in rural India is not only impactful but also scalable and profitable. We’re thrilled to welcome Vertex as a partner in this mission as we deepen our presence, delight more customers, and move closer to our vision of empowering 1 million rural solar users by 2030.”

“Metafin sits at the intersection of two powerful macro themes: financial inclusion and the rapidly expanding clean energy transition,” said Nikhil Marwaha, Senior Executive Director at Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India. “Metafin’s technology-driven approach along with their grassroots understanding of rural entrepreneurs and deep knowledge of credit underwriting, positions them as category leaders in the solar asset financing space.”

Today, Metafin has financed over 3,500 solar projects across 2,500 villages, creating India’s largest rural off-grid solar loan portfolio. These installations have helped customers save over $10 million in fuel costs and offset more than 16 million kilograms of CO₂ emissions.

Metafin’s inclusive lending platform addresses long-standing barriers to rural credit and cuts operating costs by as much as 80%. The company partners with local solar installers and uses real-time energy data to enable scalable financing and servicing for productive-use solar solutions. In a market still dominated by diesel systems, Metafin’s model stands apart from other players by offering accessible financing and a tech-driven approach to managing risk, positioning it as a leader in the rural solar financing space.

Metafin’s growth aligns with India’s 2030 renewable energy goals and positions the company as a key player in the nation’s energy transition strategy.
